For those of us that have been around long enough to remember The Honeymooners we all know that when Ralph Kramden played by Jackie Gleason arms a flailing and spouting off his famous "To the moon, Alice!" he likely was not directing her in the direction of the Moon Palace in Cancun! If so, she would have likely left in a heartbeat with her best friend Thelma and left old Ralph behind!
Had Ralph and his buddy "Norton" been golfers it would be more likely that spouting off "To the moon, Alice!" would mean that Ralph and Norton would be leaving the girls behind and heading off to the Moon Palace in Cancun to tackle the only Jack Nicklaus Signature Course in the Cancun area.

There are 27 holes at Moon Palace with the original 18, the Jungle and Lakes nines opened in 2002. The course stretches to 7,165 yards routing through dense jungle and rocky sloped lagoons. This course has played host to the Mexican Open and is covered in "paspalum", the new salt-tolerant turf grass that has grown in popularity throughout the tropics. In 2005, the Dunes nine was unveiled with a desert feel because of the vast waste areas that encircle most of the holes.
The Golden Bear wanted to ensure that there would be the least amount of disruption to the delicate environment of the area and no impact on the local flora and fauna. Crocodiles, snakes, aardvarks and iguanas, are just a few of the exotic animals and birds that you will likely see on your golf and nature safari at Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort.
We played the Lakes and Dunes tracks and on one hole we were lucky enough to see a croc break through the water and chomp down on an unsuspecting bird. Bird not so lucky! Both courses have water that comes into play on most holes. The Lakes course is the tighter of the two but The Dunes is definitely the more picturesque of the 2 nines. Both courses had generous fairways, rough was almost non-existent so if you did not hit the fairway there was not much to save you from the jungle that would "eat up" any errant shots.
The golf at Moon Palace is certainly over the top but as a place to kick back and relax this all inclusive resort is second to none. Not only do they have someone waiting on you hand and foot almost 24/7 with food and drink but they have service to and from the airport, any other Palace property within reason and the golf course too! Some of your biggest decisions include – What should I have to eat today? Drink today? Oh my, is it too hot to eat by the pool? Where is my sun screen? Another tough day at Moon Palace!
Let's hop on the Palace shuttle and get our butts over to Playacar Golf Club and you should too when you are here. This Robert von Hagge design will bring you back to reality as it is one tough mother! This is one course where the all inclusive drinks really came in handy…and so did the ride back to Moon Palace. Located in the Playa del Carmen hotel zone in Mexico's beautiful Mayan Riviera, this course was built amongst the lush foliage of the Yucatan Peninsula.
Have you ever played golf in a nature preserve? Welcome to the Riviera Cancun Golf Course another Palace property located minutes from the Cancun airport. With environmentally sensitive areas everywhere you can only imagine the numerous species of animals and birds and other forms of wildlife that were being protected by the mangroves, tall grasses, sand dunes and extensive wetlands! Unfortunately this 7,000 yard course that is rated at 76.2 with a slope of 146 tells you that balls left or right of the fairways are also protected from you ever finding them again. Don't let the turquoise waters or the Caribbean distract you too much on the 14th!
